Sustainable Energy

Reliable and sustainable electricity is a necessity that many Kansas farmers need for their daily operations.

Rising energy costs, costly demand charges and the need for powering agricultural equipment like well pumps, irrigation, fans, space and water heating, cooling systems, lighting, motors etc is why Kansas farmers are migrating to renewable energy solutions like agricultural solar systems. Adding solar to your farm is more affordable than ever for Kansas farmers through investment tax credits (ITCs) and USDA Rural Energy for America Program, or REAP, grants.

Many agricultural businesses already have key structures in place such as barns and livestock shade structures that are suitable for roof mounted PV installations and land where they can install a ground mount solar array.

In order to install solar on your existing structure, it will first need to be surveyed by one of our certified NABCEP solar professionals. This survey comes at no cost to you. Our Team will be looking at your roof structure for loading bearing qualities, for obstructions such as exhausts, hatches as well as practical aspects such as shading and workable roof space area.

The weather in our great sunflower state is beautiful yet we are prone to quick and dramatic weather changes which bring powerful weather systems through which can bring power outages that can last a few hours, days or even weeks. We understand that the loss of electricity caused by these storms can be very costly and even deadly.

Establishing a solar solution with battery back up or standby generator and battery back up can mitigate power loss issues during these times of grid outage.

In addition, this type of system can have practical day to day impacts as solar systems require minimal maintenance and when paired with an energy storage solution will allow you to generate electricity during your peak energy intensive hours, disperse energy from your battery and reduce your demand on the grid, creating significant savings. Depending on the size and usage of your solar system, there is potential for it to also become an additional revenue stream.

Please note: Your solar array will remain connected to the grid unless you choose an off grid solution.

Solar for Agriculture in Practice

Space & Water Heating, Ventilation

Heating and ventilating enclosed livestock structure spaces in addition to water heating, are energy intensive operations. Offset these energy costs by using solar generated energy to power temperature control and ventilation systems.

Cooling Systems

As with heating, cooling refrigeration operations are energy intensive. Being able to offset your utility costs through solar can have a substantial, positive impact on your utility energy consumption.

Greenhouse Heating

Battery stored energy can be used as part of a greenhouse night hour operation for lighting, electric heating and fans.

Pumps & Aerators

Use power from your solar array to run your irrigation system or your livestock or pond water aerators and pumps.

Our Preferred Equipment & Technology

We like to work with modular, scalable battery solutions which meet the needs of on grid agricultural storage and also demanding off grid agricultural storage solutions. It is important that we use chemical safe batteries.

We work with established, market leading energy technology companies like Enphase, SolarEdge, BluePlanet and other component companies who offer long warranties in addition to groundbreaking technology.

Our NABCEP PVIP Team utilize their vast knowledge and experience to source the most appropriate components for your project. Our project with you will meet the individual challenges, budget, energy use and anticipated energy needs of your agricultural business.

PROACTIVE MONITORING

All of our solar and battery solutions come with an energy usage insight app. We offer proactive system monitoring as standard on all of our solar arrays to ensure energy is being produced without issue.

NABCEP Certified Professionals

Our agriculture projects are managed and led by experienced NABCEP PV installation Professionals who also hold a Master Electrician License to ensure the highest of industry standards and practices are met.

NABCEP’s Board Certifications safeguard the integrity of the renewable energy industry by holding it’s certification holders to high standards of ethical and professional practice while also recognizing each NABCEP holders vast wealth of knowledge and experience within the industry.

NABCEP also place importance on continuous professional development and education in order to maintain a NABCEP accredited status. Our installation teams are made up of Journeymen, a Master Electrician, certified battery and EV installers in addition to a NABCEP.

Did you know that you can use your solar, standby generators and batteries as a complete system that offers a unique form of backup?

Tax Credits & Incentives

There are significant tax related incentives and tax credits available for taking your agricultural business solar, lowering the cost of going solar and making solar add ons such as battery storage and EV charging stations more affordable than ever.

For agricultural producers and rural small businesses the Rural Energy for America Program, or REAP, grants are available to make energy efficiency improvements as well as for renewable energy solutions. Further information about REAP grants can be found at USDA.

Scheduling a complementary consultation is a great first step to exploring different solar solutions for your business. Feel free to ask us a question or schedule a complimentary consultation over the phone, online or in person.

We welcome the opportunity to visit with you and talk further about your solar and energy needs and the incentives available.

Two tax credits are available to businesses, local and tribal governments and nonprofits however in general a project owner can only claim one of the tax credits for each property. There are exceptions to this point and the Solar Energy Technologies Office guide Federal Solar Tax Credits for Businesses offers greater insight on this point.

The investment tax credit (ITC) reduces your federal income tax liability for a percentage of the cost of your solar installation within the tax year. And the production tax credit (PTC) is a kilowatt-hour tax credit for all electricity generated by solar and any other qualifying technology within the first 10 years of your systems operation. Much like the ITC it reduces your federal income tax liability however is adjusted annually for inflation.
