Why Our Customers
Choose a Ground Mount
Practical reasons like roof space, shade, orientation, not wanting to replace an existing roof or, a non compatible roof material can lead to a customer choosing a ground mount.
Some customers just find that a ground mount solar solution works better for their needs as they don’t want to trim or remove house shading trees but, have space within their grounds.
For some it’s about the benefits. You can put a ground mount at an optimized angle and direction and they stay cooler and produce slightly higher power than the equivalent roof system.
Considerations for Ground Mount Solar
Long term plans
Ground mounts tend to take up large areas of land (500sq ft) and also need to be in an unshaded area. Would a solar carport or solar pergola be a better option?
Space
Consider any future development you plan to undertake with the land when choosing a location.
Property Line
Many jurisdictions require ground mounts to be a set distance away from property lines.

Trenching
Please be aware we will need to run trenches carrying our electrical cables from your solar array to the point of connection.
Grid Tied
Your solar array will remain connected to the grid unless you choose an off grid solution.
Current Electrical Panel Setup
The location, age and size of your current electrical panel may mean you require a panel upgrade that will support your solar, batteries or an EV charger etc. An upgrade of this nature may qualify for an ITC (Investment Tax Credit).
Federal Tax Credit for Solar Photovoltaics
Going solar has become more accessible and affordable through groundbreaking technology and also a broad range of residential renewable energy tax credits and incentives.
As we assess your current home energy needs, daily energy usage habits, what your future energy needs may look like and start to think about the size of system that will meet these energy goals, we’ll also take you through the incentive and tax credits available to you. You may find that adding a battery, integrating an EV Charger or integrating your solar with your standby generator is more achievable than you thought.

OUR PREFERRED EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY
USA GALVANIZED STEEL & IQ MICRO INVERTERS
Our ground mounts are US made using fully galvanized steel. They have a 25 year warranty and are designed to tolerate wind speeds of 115mph.
Our preferred inverter is the Enphase IQ series due to performance and compatibility with Enphase solar batteries meaning you’ll be battery ready should you want to add a battery in the future. We are, of course, happy to discuss other equipment options if they better match your needs.
PLEASE NOTE: If your ground mount is over 200ft away from the electrical connection other great inverter options are available and we’re committed to working on a solution that gives you the best options for your needs.
BIFACIAL PANELS
Bifacial PV panels offer greater energy production over opaque, monofacial, panels as they absorb light from the top of the panel and reflective light on the underside from the ground, water or other reflective surfaces.
When we install a ground mount we use a light colored gravel underneath it, forming a light reflective surface.
When there’s snow on the ground reflected light from th snow results in panel energy generation and also heat which increases the rate of snowmelt on the panel. Additionally, the angle of the ground mount allows the snow to slide off naturally.
This fantastic ground mount out in Cummings, Atchison County, Kansas demonstrates how the angle of the ground mount allows the snow to slide off naturally and of course, as all arrays are positioned in prime sun locations, reflective light is abundant and snow melt is expedited.
The Enphase IQ8 Advantage
DAYTIME GRID RESILIENCE
Sunlight Backup technology by Enphase: Run small, isolated circuits during a daytime grid outage without a battery using the Enphase IQ8 Sunlight Backup Technology.
SHADE BOOST TECHNOLOGY
Our micro inverters also use Burst Mode™ technology which allows them to capture even more energy when there are passing clouds and shadows or, there are low light conditions.
INVERTER RESILIENCE
Our IQ micro inverters offer greater resilience over traditional string inverters. If one IQ micro inverter experiences a rare error or falls into a shade, the panels around it will continue generating power. Whereas with a string inverter, if one panel falls into the shade, fails or experiences a rare error the whole string may go down.
SOLAR ADD ONS
We understand that a family’s energy usage can change and grow, and sometimes unexpectedly.
When you install Enphase IQ8 inverters you are investing in infrastructure that will allow for future energy expansion, be that an expanded array or adding IQ10 batteries.
The IQ8 as part of an Enphase home energy system can also work with existing or future standby generators, supplementing the generator with solar energy.
SAFETY
IQ micro inverters meet the most stringent and updated electrical safety standards making them one of the safest residential solar components available on the market today.
App & Web Based Technology
The Enphase app provides real time performance monitoring with easy to view production data, home usage and grid consumption insights, individual panel performance and many more additional features.
This information is also available in web based and desktop formats.
We actively monitor all of our systems to make certain each array is producing energy as designed and without issue.
Essential Industry Accreditations
All of our residential projects are led and managed by an experienced North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioner, PV Installation Professional (NABCEP PVIP) to ensure the highest of industry standards and practices are met.

Tax Credits & Incentives
Export your solar energy to the grid through new metering. All energy you export translates into a reduction of cost per kilowatt hour on your energy bill. If your utility doesn’t offer met metering, you may want to consider a battery storage solution.
Solar credits are set to expire in 2033 and new solar installations may be eligible for a 30% solar tax credit. The Renewable Energy Property Tax Exemption Statute exempts renewable energy equipment from property taxes for 10 years after purchase however, in order to qualify an application must be filed.
Feel free to ask us a question or schedule a complimentary consultation over the phone, online or in person. We welcome the opportunity to visit with you and talk further about your solar and energy needs and the incentives available.

FAQ
Each product page has its own subject specific frequently asked questions section and we have a main FAQ section with other more generalized questions.
Still need help? Get in touch, we’ll be happy to help you.
Peace of mind benefits of going solar
- Reduce your electricity bills through energy production and net metering
- Your reliance on your unity company and escalating energy costs will be significantly reduced.
- Your investment in solar may lead to a higher property resale value
- Your insurance typically covers your solar array without any additional cost
- You will be reducing your fossil fuel consumption
Do I need to fence my ground mount off?
In the majority of cases this is a personal choice, you don’t have to unless your AJH has a specific requirement. However please be advised that all ground mounts have low overhangs, sharp corners and live electrical wires.
What do I need to consider when maintaining the land around my ground mount
Kansas Solar Solutions as standard install a weed barrier and gravel under ground mounts which will help with maintenance. If you’re mowing around and near your ground mount please be mindful of low clearances and be aware of sharp edges.
Should I clean snow off of my ground mount
Panels can still produce energy with a light coating of snow on them. If they’re bifacial panels they’ll be generating energy from both the front and the back of the panel in the form of refracted light.
A benefit of having a ground mount is that they’re accessible for cleaning. If you have a coating of snow, in most cases it will naturally slide off due to the panels angle. If you would like to clear your panels we recommend using a soft rubber squidgy to help the snow slide off.
What should you expect from the solar installation process?
Once your contract has been signed we can begin the preinstallation process. The first stage is paperwork submission to the utility and for any local permits required for your installation. We will undertake a final site survey which will allow us to finalize your technical plans ready for local permit submission. Paperwork turnaround timescales vary depending on the utility and location, we’ll be sure to keep you informed of the progress.
Once the paperwork as been approved we’ll move to the physical installation phase. We will arrange a convenient install date with you, take you through what to expect during the physical installation and in terms of post installation inspections by the city (if required) and the utilities final step of PTO (permission to operate).
Once your solar system is active we’ll guide you through the monitoring app and will be available for any post installation support questions you may have.
