Why Our Customers
Choose a Roof Mount

At Kansas Solar Systems, we offer flexible solar solutions for your home’s roof, shed, garage, or barn. Our customers appreciate the roof mount option for its simplicity and efficient use of space that would otherwise go unused. A well-oriented roof with ample space can support a solar array that perfectly meets their energy needs.

Roof-mounted solar systems generally cost less than ground-mounted options. They are ideal for those with limited ground space, who want to preserve their landscape, or prefer not to have ground work done in their yard. Whether you’re looking to maintain your views or maximize your land for other purposes, a roof-mounted solar system is an excellent choice.

Key Considerations for Roof-Mounted Solar Systems with Kansas Solar Systems

Age & Condition of your Roof

Ensure your roof is in good condition and won’t need replacement within the next five years. Addressing any repairs or replacements before installing solar panels can save you from additional costs associated with removing and reinstalling your solar array later. Kansas Solar Systems partners with trusted roofing experts – contact us for more details!

Roofing Material

Some roofing material like asphalt shingled roofs are a good choice for solar whereas a shake or clay tile roof are not. If you have a shake or clay roof please do reach out to us to explore alternative mounting solutions.

Roof Limitations & Obstructions

We can customize your solar installation by dividing the array into multiple sections to navigate around roof components or limitations in available space.

Orientation & Shade

South-facing roofs offer the best performance for solar panels, while southwest and southeast orientations are also highly effective. East and west-facing roofs can be viable depending on your specific energy needs, though all orientations should be evaluated for potential shading issues.

Current Electrical Panel Setup

The location, age, and capacity of your electrical panel may require an upgrade to accommodate solar panels, batteries or an EV charger. Upgrades are eligible for investment tax credits (ITC) as part of your solar installation with Kansas Solar Systems.

OUR PREFERRED EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY

ENPHASE: IQ MICRO INVERTERS

Solar panels are important however installed beneath the panels are micro inverters which essentially convert the DC power the panel is generating into the form of electricity your home uses, AC.

IQ micro inverters meet the most stringent and updated electrical safety standards making them one of the safest residential solar components available on the market today.

We use Enphase’s industry leading IQ micro inverters as our preferred residential solution however are happy to discuss other equipment options if they better match your needs.

RESILIENCE: NO SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE

IQ micro inverters enable our solar arrays to produce more energy than traditional string inverters and offer better resilience.

If one panel experiences a rare error or falls into partial shade the other panels will keep generating whereas with string inverters, if one panel cannot produce the whole string may go down.

Our micro inverters also use Burst Mode™ technology which allows them to capture even more energy when there are passing clouds and shadows or, there are low light conditions.

SUNLIGHT BACKUP READY: DAYTIME RESILIENCE

IQ8 micro inverters feature Sunlight Backup technology which is a ground breaking solution for daytime grid outages when used in conjunction with supporting Enphase hardware.

It allows the user to still run select small circuits in isolation from the grid during a daytime power outage without a battery, a feature not available in other micro inverters.

ROOM FOR GROWTH

IQ8 Micro inverters are compatible with Enphase’s solar batteries which means should you want to add a battery down the line you already have a good infrastructure in place.

The IQ8 as part of an Enphase home energy system can also work with existing or future standby generators, supplementing the generator with solar energy.

App & Web Based Technology

The Enphase app provides real time performance monitoring with easy to view production data, home usage and grid consumption insights, individual panel performance and many more additional features.

This information is also available in web based and desktop formats.

We actively monitor all of our systems to make certain each array is producing energy as designed and without issue.

Tax Credits & Incentives

There are a wide range of incentives and tax credits available that can make switching to solar more affordable than ever.

If your utility offers net metering, you can export power to the grid which translates into a reduction of cost per kilowatt hour on your energy bill, if your utility does not offer met metering, you may want to consider battery energy storage.

A new solar installation may be eligible for a 30% solar tax credit.  The credit is set to expire in 2033. The Renewable Energy Property Tax Exemption Statute exempts renewable energy equipment from property taxes for 10 years after purchase however, in order to qualify an application must be filed.

What should you expect from the solar installation process?
We work hard to make the installation process as simple and convenient for you as possible.

Once your contract has been signed we can begin the preinstallation process. The first stage is paperwork submission to the utility and for any local permits required for your installation. We will undertake a final site survey which will allow us to finalize your technical plans ready for local permit submission. Paperwork turnaround timescales vary depending on the utility and location, we’ll be sure to keep you informed of the progress.

Once the paperwork as been approved we’ll move to the physical installation phase. We will arrange a convenient install date with you, take you through what to expect during the physical installation and in terms of post installation inspections by the city (if required) and the utilities final step of PTO (permission to operate).

Once your solar system is active we’ll guide you through the monitoring app and will be available for any post installation support questions you may have.

How easy is it to upgrade to a battery in the future

If you are thinking of going solar and think adding a battery might currently be a little out of reach, you may want to review the current tax incentives as adding a battery may be more achievable than you previously thought. We’d be happy to take you through the incentives and your options.

If you have existing solar, the first step will be to review your existing set up, your energy needs and the options available to you. If you have for example, an Enphase IQ system it will be straightforward to upgrade to an IQ battery in the future.

Additional components will be required however it will also be dependent on how far into the future you would like to upgrade to a battery as there may be different, more efficient options available or equipment compatible with your existing system may be unavailable. The type of battery you upgrade to will also be dependent on your future energy usage plans.

I have an existing solar array with a different company, can you upgrade my system with a battery?

In order for us to take over the management of your existing system and add a new battery, the first step would be for us to review your existing system both in theory and also physically inspect it. We would need to understand if you have been experiencing any issues with your current array and to make certain that it’s producing to its full potential currently. It will also be important for us to discuss your current and future energy needs and battery expectations.

Once we have collated this information we will be able to go through the different options available to you. In some instances, it may not be straightforward to upgrade to a battery system without making significant changes and additions to your existing system. We would be happy to chat and investigate this with you further.
